Mihail ‘Misho’ Ivanov is a Bulgarian bassist and composer born in Sofia in 1981.
After his professional training in classical guitar at the National Music School in Sofia, in 2002 he was enrolled at the Jazz Department of the ‘Conservatorium van Amsterdam’ where he obtained his bachelor degree in Jazz double bass in 2006. Since then Mihail has been involved in a few original projects among which the Srdjan Ivanovic Blazin’ Quartet with which he won the SENA prize for ‘Best Band’ and was awarded the NORMA prize for ‘Best Soloist’ at the Dutch Jazz Competition in 2008, the trio of award winning Bulgarian pianist and composer Dimitar Bodurov – Bodurov Trio, The quintet of the Italian pianist and composer Federica Colangelo – Acquaphonica, and the trio of award winning Bulgarian accordionist and composer Martin Lubenov – Jazzta Prasta Trio.
In 2010 Mihail together with 12 other young bassist from all over the world was selected to participate in the semifinal of the prestigious BASS2010 Competition in Berlin.
In 2014 he was invited to lead the ‘Pro-Jazz/Rock/Blues’ programm for double bass and bass guitar at the ‘True School of Music’ in Mumbai, India.
Misho has performed in The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Norway, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Brazil, Mexico, India, China, Thailand, Israel.
Since 2015 Mihail resides in Rome, Italy.
